- A Million People Hate Him for Wanting to Leave
- Chapter 30, part 1 - Fuzzy and warm is best!
The moment he saw the letter, something seemed to come loose, and some broken and incomplete pictures fleetingly flashed by.
There were tree-lined avenues, and some desks.
He stood on the playground, seemingly calling someone’s name.
He was probably happy, and he could even remember the feeling of the wind blowing through his clothes.
He felt very relaxed and free.
——But who was he calling?
Unconsciously, Song Yunhui moved his fingers slightly.
He raised his eyes slowly, and they had a cold glint.
At this moment, the things that had been ignored before were completely revealed.
It’s not that he thought too sparsely about the events in high school, nor that he was gradually forgetting them. It seemed that his memories of high school disappeared inexplicably, and he couldn’t recall them at all.
To be precise, specific memories disappeared.
Memories that had to do with his deskmate whose face he couldn’t remember, the letter he once wrote, and maybe even things he had done that he was no longer aware of.
Rather than disappearing, it’s more accurate to say that they were deleted.
Like something or someone was trying to fix something.
Intangible, but there nonetheless.
“Here.”
Qin Shu found the charger cable and turned around, and Song Yunhui withdrew his gaze.
After taking the cable from the other party, he opened his mouth to say something. Then, he stopped, raised his head, smiled, and said, “Good night.”
Qin Shu glanced at his smiling face, and said, “Yeah, good night.”
After that, Song Yunhui took the charger cable and left.
Qin Shu stood there and watched him enter his room before looking away.
Click.
The door closed softly. Qin Shu turned around and walked to the desk, standing right where Song Yunhui had been just now.
By turning his head slightly, he was easily able to see the photo frame on one side and the white envelope sandwiched behind the photo frame.
Either he didn’t see it, or he had really forgotten about it.
Or maybe he did remember, but pretended not to.
***
After opening the door to his room, Song Yunhui plugged in the cable and charged his phone.
The lights in the room weren’t turned on, and the faint blue light illuminated a pair of calm and indifferent eyes.
He was still thinking.
Why were those memories missing?
Apart from the chance that there was something wrong with his brain, the only possibility was the plot.
Maybe the plot was trying to correct something.
Would that deskmate have any impact on the plot? Or did something happen during those days that would have had an impact on the original plot?
Did he and Qin Shu know each other in high school?
But that wasn’t the most important thing.
He didn’t care about the plot, the past, or his memories.
What really mattered was that letter.
That handwriting was indeed his own. His handwriting hadn’t changed in many years. After looking at it for more than ten years, it was impossible to pretend that he didn’t recognize it.
…He didn’t seem like someone who’d write letters casually.
What Song Yunhui was most worried about was the content in the letter.
His memory was blurry, so he couldn’t even remember writing a letter, let alone what the contents of the letter were.
He kept having a bad feeling about it.
Song Yunhui turned over on the bed and looked up at the ceiling, still trying to recall.
The letter was written by himself. In fact, he could have gone straight to Qin Shu and told him he wanted to see it. But in the end, he kept silent.
He had an inexplicable feeling that if he read that letter in front of Qin Shu, the level of social death he would suffer would be no lower than when was reading comics and mistakenly reposted it in Qin Shu’s account.
So he held back.
“……”
After tossing and turning over and over again and still being unable to think of anything, Song Yunhui finally chose to close his eyes peacefully.
He’d go to sleep for now.
***
He slept until dawn.
When Song Yunhui got up, there was already some sunlight coming in through the window.
The air conditioner was turned on in the room, so the process of getting up wasn’t as difficult as before. After a few minutes of mental preparation, he suddenly jumped out.
After taking off his pajamas, he brushed his teeth in front of the mirror. When he raised his eyes, he suddenly stopped brushing his teeth, and his drooping eyes opened instantly.
Today’s hair was… a little unusual.
Last night was a normal night, but his hair today was not normal.
Perhaps because his sleeping position changed a bit last night, a bunch of hair on the top of his head stood up proudly, and it refused to be pressed down.
With the toothbrush in his mouth, Song Yunhui tried to wet it with water to make it go down, but no matter how he fiddled with it, his hair still stood up proudly and stubbornly.
“……”
After resisting to no avail, he finally put a hat on.
This was fine.
After washing up and going downstairs, he still found Qin Shu standing by himself in the kitchen.
He yawned and said, “Good morning.”
Hearing the noise, the other party turned around, then handed him a cup of milk. “It’s hot, just about ready to drink.”
It was still that little dinosaur mug.
Song Yunhui took the milk, squatted down to pat Orange’s small head, and asked, “Where’s Aunt Ye and Uncle Qin?”
Qin Shu temporarily put an omelette aside on a plate and said, “They should be ready soon.”
When he passed by their room before, he heard voices coming from inside. They must already be awake.
As soon as he finished speaking, Orange meowed twice towards the corridor, and then there were footsteps.
It was Qin Jianyuan. He came over yawning, still alone. When he noticed he was on the receiving end of two people and one cat’s gazes, he suppressed his yawn to show a father’s majesty. However, he didn’t know what to say, so he only mentioned that Ye Min was still getting ready in their room and would come down a bit later.
Qin Shu handed him a glass of milk as usual.
Qin Jianyuan took the milk, then lined up next to Song Yunhui to play with Orange.
Later on, Ye Min, who had finished getting ready, joined the two of them.
The three of them squatted on the ground and watched Orange meow happily while looking like a loaf of sugar-free whole-wheat bread. They all looked very happy.
Qin Shu picked up Orange and said, “It’s time to eat.”
The three people regretfully had to look away and sit down at the dining table.
This was probably the most lively breakfast Song Yunhui had ever experienced.
Ye Min and Qin Jianyuan had been to many places and met many people, and they always had something to talk about.
But what they most liked to talk about most were the little things in life.
While chatting happily, Ye Min suddenly asked Qin Shu, “Do you have work again today?”
Qin Shu nodded. “I’ll be back late tonight. You guys can figure out what to have for dinner.”
So Ye Min turned around and asked Song Yunhui, “Is Yun’zai free today?”
Song Yunhui nodded.
He had absolutely nothing scheduled for today.
“That’s great!”
Ye Min clapped and said, “Then you go do your work today, and we’ll go out to play with Yun’zai.”
There was a hint of pride in her eyes, as if she had won.
Qin Jianyuan couldn’t bear to look at her directly.
And so, today’s itinerary was settled.
After they were done eating, Ye Min wasn’t in a hurry to go out. Instead, she finally remembered the big and small bags that she’d brought when she came over yesterday. She happily pulled Song Yunhui so they could start opening them.
She had brought a lot of things this time, and many things were purchased in twos. The bags had a bit of everything. You could never know what was inside a bag until you opened it, so it was just like doing unboxing streams.
When the last bag was opened, Song Yunhui couldn’t tell what it was at first glance.
Immediately after, Ye Min said, “Right, I also got you earmuffs.”
Only then did Song Yunhui realize that this off-white thing could be called an earmuff.
Ye Min was very enthusiastic. “Yun’zai, take off your hat and put it on quickly, Auntie wants to see.”
Song Yunhui froze in his movements and sat up a little straighter.
Ye Min was still looking at him with expectation.
“……”
Finally, he pulled off the hat, praying that his hair had gotten wiser.
He couldn’t see whether the hair was smarter or not, but what he could see was the sudden smile in Ye Min’s eyes.
Alright.
He understood.
Ye Min suppressed her laughter and put the earmuffs on his head.
This was the first time Song Yunhui had witnessed a person smiling so happily while the corners of their mouth were still turned down.
After a burst of fragrance, a strange feeling came to his ears.
It was fuzzy and warm. Ye Min’s movements were very gentle, so he didn’t feel any discomfort.
It was a very novel feeling.
Ye Min looked down at the person in front of her.
His hair looked a lot messier after taking off the hat. His eyelashes were very long, and plush earmuffs covered both sides of his cheeks. He sat on the sofa like that, with a hint of surprise in his eyes.
Very obedient and quiet.
He suddenly glanced away, turning his head to the side and blinking quickly.
Qin Shu glanced at him, his coat in his hands. He ran his fingers through Song Yunhui’s hair, instantly attracting the other person’s attention.
“Your hair’s sticking up.”
He struggled with the tuft of hair on Song Yunhui’s head for a while. When he was faced with the gaze of the person beneath him, he finally said, “It looks good like this, too.”
He meant that since it couldn’t be fixed, just let it go.
Song Yunhui slapped his hand away.
Ye Min stood aside and watched them both, laughing until tears rolled down her cheeks.
After Qin Shu went out, the remaining three people sat on the sofa and began to discuss what to do today.
Orange was next to them. Even though he wouldn’t be part of this trip, he still listened with great interest and took turns rolling around on each of their laps.
Ye Min picked the clothes Song Yunhui would wear when going out this time.
It was a simple and milky outfit, and it inexplicably matched the ones worn by Ye Min and Qin Jianyuan.
He hadn’t bought a scarf yet, so Qin Shu lent him a scarf before he went out this morning.
It was the red scarf he bought for Qin Shu.
The knitted scarf was large, and it could be pulled far up enough to cover his face. He didn’t even need to wear a mask, only a hat.
The red scarf matched his white skin very well. The warm and deep red made his face look even better.
After going out and closing the door, Song Yunhui exhaled.
Whenever he went out without wearing a mask, he felt like he could breathe much easier.
The Internet’s memory didn’t last too long. Maybe in the near future, he’d be able to go out like any other normal person and would no longer need to hide himself while going out.

The family moments are very bittersweet for me to read, as someone who is very isolated and lacking both a familial and friendly social life.
Regardless, this story is very endearing, and it’s translated really well, as far as I can tell.
Thank you, Cupsidate, for your hard work and bringing this story to us!

you’re very welcome, and thank you for appreciating my work!
as a person that’s studying to get into college at 24, which is definitely not conventional, i personally truly believe everyone has their own time. i’ve been very isolated in the past, but nowadays, i find that those times allowed me to better myself enough to make truly long lasting and impactful connections, and to not hurt others with my own hurt. i genuinely believe this will be the same for you too! <3
