After Transmigrating, I Died of Depression Without My Phone - Chapter 53.2
It was as if she were protecting the Northern Court!
Something didn’t sit right with him—there had to be something going on behind the scenes that he didn’t know about, and he was determined to find out.
But with his movements restricted and his soldiers taken away, Bai Fusheng had no choice but to come up with an alternative plan. The only option now was to pick someone from the lowly ranks of Hundred Calls Abyss to help him.
Despite his usual self-control, Bai Fusheng couldn’t help but pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration as he looked at the ragtag group of demons before him.
“Is this really all of the demons from Hundred Calls Abyss?” he asked, his voice tense as he questioned his trusted attendant, a seductive female demon named Lü Sui.
Lü Sui, dressed entirely in green, with a tall, alluring figure, smiled bewitchingly as she replied, “Yes, Young Master, they’re all here. If anything, there are more than we expected.”
More than expected? Was she pointing at her?
Long Xiang instinctively raised her head and glanced over, but before she could look away, Bai Fusheng’s sharp gaze landed on her.
Crap.
A feeling of doom washed over her, as if she’d been marked by bad luck.
Long Xiang froze, resisting the urge to flee underground. Drawing attention to herself would only make her more suspicious.
The other demons, noticing that the Young Master had singled her out, cast jealous glances her way. Demons were nothing like humans—whatever they felt was written plainly on their faces, without any attempt to hide it. Long Xiang quickly processed this and decided to respond with a polite smile.
I’m so glad I was chosen!
…As if.
“You, come here,” Bai Fusheng gestured toward Long Xiang, then waved the other demons away with disdain. “The rest of you, leave.”
And just like that, the crowd of demons who had entered in a noisy procession now filed out just as loudly.
No way the Monster Queen wouldn’t notice this kind of commotion. What was Bai Fusheng planning? Long Xiang had no fondness for him. After all, he had nearly killed Beiting Xue. Every fiber of her being screamed to avoid him.
Thankfully, Bai Fusheng didn’t seem to mind. He carefully sized her up, while Long Xiang pressed her hand against her pocket, praying that nothing would give her away.
‘Come on, phone, give me some help!’
After what felt like an eternity, Bai Fusheng finally withdrew his gaze, lazily leaning back against his stone chair, crossing his legs as he asked in a picky tone, “What kind of demon are you? I can’t seem to tell.”
Not being able to tell was good—it meant she hadn’t been exposed. ‘I’m human, after all! What about you? You’re clearly not human.’
Though she thought this in her head, she couldn’t say it out loud. Long Xiang patted her hair, brainstorming quickly. She needed to come up with something unusual to avoid being found out immediately.
Luckily, Bai Fusheng didn’t seem to have any idea what she was.
After some deliberation, she decided to choose something lucky, something auspicious, “Young Master, I’m a capybara.”
Sure enough, Bai Fusheng, having been raised as a privileged Young Master, had no clue what that was.
“Huh?” He blinked, turning to his attendant, Lü Sui.
Lü Sui hesitated, then glanced at Long Xiang.
Long Xiang paused for a moment, then elaborated, “Um… more specifically, I’m a capybara, a rodent from the Hydrochoeridae family.”
Bai Fusheng and Lü Sui stared blankly at her.
“Show me your true form,” Bai Fusheng demanded, his tone brooking no refusal, as he pointed in her direction, clearly intrigued.
‘How on earth am I supposed to do that?! I’m not Sun Wukong! I can’t just transform into a capybara!’
The atmosphere quickly grew tense as Bai Fusheng’s expression turned more suspicious. Long Xiang instinctively clutched the phone in her pocket. She wasn’t sure what she did, but suddenly, the phone buzzed—and she actually transformed.
With a “poof,” her vision blurred, and she became a capybara.
…
‘What the heck?’
Long Xiang stood there, completely speechless, unsure whether to feel relieved or horrified.
But Bai Fusheng wasn’t satisfied. He grinned with interest and commanded, “It’s furry? Walk around a bit, let me see.”
‘Why don’t you walk around?!
Long Xiang felt humiliated, resisting the urge to scratch Bai Fusheng’s face. She stubbornly stood still, unwilling to move.
Her gut told her that if she did, the temporary transformation might wear off.
Thankfully, Bai Fusheng didn’t push further. He stood up and circled her, admiring her stiff, awkward movements before finally granting her some mercy. “You’ve got a temper. I like that. Alright, change back now.”
Without hesitation, Long Xiang pressed her phone again and returned to her human form.
When she was in capybara form, she was small, so Bai Fusheng had been close by, not noticing the proximity. But once she changed back into a tall human, she nearly bumped into him.
“Watch it!”
Bai Fusheng, as if he had been stepped on, jumped back, clearly offended by the near-contact, and nervously patted his chest.
‘As if I’d want to touch you.’
Long Xiang rolled her eyes.
Unfortunately, Bai Fusheng saw the eye-roll.
Just as he was about to get angry, Lü Sui tugged at his arm, silently reminding him that they were short on time.
Reluctantly, Bai Fusheng pursed his lips, broke free from Lü Sui’s grip, and walked back over to Long Xiang. His tone frosty, he asked, “What’s your name?”
Long Xiang replied, deadpan, “Capybara.”
“Capy…” Bai Fusheng attempted to repeat it but found it too difficult. “What a ridiculous name—Cap… Capiba… Pika!”
He finally settled on calling her “Pika.”
‘Kill me now.’
‘What is happening?!’
‘I shouldn’t have said I was a capybara.’
This was too ridiculous.
Seeing Long Xiang’s face of utter despair, Bai Fusheng even tried to console her. “Don’t be afraid. I’m keeping you around because you’re the sharpest one out of that bunch of demons. Your fortune is about to change.”
Long Xiang’s expression was probably too gloomy, too defeated, because Bai Fusheng almost reached out to pat her head. He paused just before touching her, then asked cautiously, “You don’t bite, do you?”
Long Xiang bared her teeth. “I don’t bite.”
Just as Bai Fusheng was about to pat her, she added, “I eat people.”
Bai Fusheng jerked his hand back immediately.
Long Xiang smirked. “What’s wrong, Young Master? What are you afraid of? You’re not a human, after all.”
Bai Fusheng’s expression darkened. He felt like he’d just been insulted, but couldn’t quite pinpoint what was wrong.
“…Whatever.”
After toying with her for a while, Bai Fusheng finally got to the point.
“The reason I’m keeping you around today is that I need you to do something for me in the cultivation world.”
‘The cultivation world? Perfect!’
Long Xiang perked up, finally showing some interest. “Sure, Young Master. Whatever you need, I’m at your service.”
Satisfied with her new attitude, Bai Fusheng’s expression softened. He leaned in and whispered in her ear, “You’re going to infiltrate the Northern Court… and get rid of Beiting Xue.”
…
This was the most absurd moment of Long Xiang’s day.
“Huh?” She pointed to herself, speechless. “Me?”
