To show off a bit, I summoned both creatures at once.

Hameslot, shielded by Odolski, looked up at the two beasts, his face pale with fear. In contrast, Amy’s cheeks were flushed with excitement as she gazed at Gorimaru and Drazo.

“This is Rex Hesselink… this is the power of an advanced summoner…”

“Marvelous! So, these are Gorimaru and Drazo? Oh my, Gorimaru is so friendly!”

Seemingly understanding Amy’s interest, Gorimaru approached her and extended one of his four arms, palm facing up. It appeared to mean she could hop on. When I explained this, Amy immediately leaped onto Gorimaru’s massive hand before Hameslot could even try to stop her.

I want to ride, too.

“Why’s the Great Demon Ape getting all friendly? You’re my brother’s summon, not hers,” Mary said with an exasperated tone, but Gorimaru merely glanced at him before turning away with a huff. His attitude seemed to say, “This has nothing to do with you.”

“Let it be,” I said. “It shows he recognizes her as an ally. Now, I’ve shown you all the power I possess. When I say power, I mean military strength, of course.”

All of my forces were now gathered in one place. It was quite a sight. The only one missing was the Phantom King, who had gone missing. But for now, this was enough.

“Two high-threat summoned beasts, Holy Knight Odolski, Massacre General Jean-Jacques, and Mary. Quite the terrifying lineup.”

“And once we gain the consent of Canilunya, Amy will join us as well, making our group even stronger.”

There may be some disagreement about treating my wife as part of my combat forces, but this matter needed to be resolved quickly. I planned to tell Hameslot tonight that I wanted Amy to reside in Orenang permanently. Nobles didn’t seem to like breaking with tradition, and since I would be doing so personally, I knew I had to handle it carefully.

“About that… Lord Rex, I have a request,” Amy said.

Oh? What could it be? Is it about wanting more food? If she agreed to stay here, I’d make sure she was well-fed. Should I check with her directly, just to be sure? If she refused, so be it. But the idea of having a cute wife who could also fight in emergencies wasn’t so bad.

“I also have a request, but let’s hear yours first,” I said.

Ladies first, of course. I wasn’t sure if this world even had that concept, but still.

“Thank you. I’ve heard that women who marry into House Hesselink are usually sent away to live at a secondary residence in the capital,” Amy began.

Oh? So, that’s what this is about? What a coincidence.

“That’s right. My mother lives there with my sister. And?”

“If I were to marry into House Hesselink, I would ask you to break that tradition. I wish to remain here in Orenang, in the Beast’s Forest, living and fighting alongside you, my lord.”

YES!

This was a wonderful development. I’d get both a boost in fighting power and a life with my lovely wife!

No, I can’t get carried away. I need to maintain my dignity here. 

I forced myself to keep a serious expression. “I accept.”

“What!? Oh, um, thank you. But… is it really okay to accept so easily? Changing a noble tradition isn’t something that’s done lightly.”

“It doesn’t matter,” I said. “Because your request aligns perfectly with my own. I’ll formally ask as well: once we’re married, I want you to stay here in Orenang with me and help in the battle against the magical beasts.”

“I’m so happy… thank you! In that case, I need to return to Canilunya right away and speak with my father. Hameslot!”

Her smile was heartwarming. If she and Yumika stood together, I thought they’d bring peace to the world. 

Don’t you agree, Mary? Hmm? What’s with that look of disapproval on your face?

Sorry, my bad.

While I was freezing under Mary’s cold stare, Amy and Hameslot began working out the details.

“First, we’ll send a fast messenger to inform that Count Hesselink is considering the marriage favorably. We’ll also add that permission has been granted for you to stay in Orenang.”

“Yes. After that, it’ll just be a matter of setting up a meeting between my father and Lord Rex. The capital is probably the best place since it’s between Canilunya and Hesselink.”

“Agreed. I’m sure your father will send a reply via fast messenger as well. Once we hear from him, we can discuss the next steps.”

Meeting her father was going to be nerve-wracking. But since both of us were counts, maybe it wouldn’t be too formal.

“Lord Rex, it seems we’ll need to extend our stay until we get the fast messenger’s reply. Is that alright?”

“That’s more efficient than going back and forth. Jean-Jacques, will it be an issue for the people from Canilunya to stay longer?”

“No issues at all. Mahdavikia might get a bit busier… but I imagine he’ll enjoy that.”

I decided to bring in extra hands. It would be a bit much to have one person cooking meals for Amy every day. House Hesselink was committed to providing its retainers with a fair working environment.

“Then it’s settled. I approve the extended stay. I’m sure Yumika will be happy to have Amy around, and it’ll be a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other beyond just our military strength.”

“Hehe, Yumika really is adorable, like an angel. I’d also love to get along with the rest of the household.”

Yumika = Angel. No doubt about it. I had a feeling Amy and I were going to get along well.

Even the doting knight, Odolski, was nodding in agreement.

“Why don’t you start by having lunch together with Mary and the others? Go ahead and eat as much as you like.”

I pulled out the huge baskets of food that had been stored away and set them on the ground. Amy’s eyes lit up, while Hameslot looked shocked, unable to process what had just happened.

It must have been tough being the sensible one.

Needless to say, Amy ended up eating most of the sandwiches that day.
