Episode 5: Five Miles to the Dragon’s Search
“Come forth, Dragon Zombie!”
As always, the summon was instantaneous, and boom! Descending from the sky was a giant skeleton in the shape of an Eastern dragon.
Since it’s a zombie, there’s no flesh attached to it. I thought there would be rotting flesh or something, but it’s just clean white bones. It’s about the same size as Gorimaru.
[An extremely wicked dragon that continues to live even after becoming bones. Threat Level A, Dragon Zombie]
“The name ‘extremely wicked dragon’ has a nice ring to it. Alright, finish them off, Drazon!”
[Name confirmation. Henceforth, the summoning of Dragon Zombie will be referred to as the individual name “Drazon”]
Just like Gorimaru, it’s surprisingly fast for its size. In the blink of an eye, it took down two Crazed Bears that were trying to attack us as prey.
Then, I heard the sound of something hard getting crunched. When Drazon released its restraints, the bears collapsed to the ground without any strength.
“Even before becoming an advanced summoner, you had a knack for being quite a monster. What? Are you planning to conquer the world?”Â
Mary, who came along as an attendant, skillfully opened the bears’ chests with a large blade and extracted life stones.
“You’re quite skilled at this. Should I help?”
“Leave these dirty jobs to a servant like me. Here, this one’s decent-sized.”
It’s much smaller than what we got for the first time, but it’s still a valuable asset.Â
Command, store it away.
[As you wish]
“Wow, you can actually erase it. Od brother did creepily praised you. ‘The lord has an unfathomable depth!’ or something like that.”
He’s got a wicked smile on his beautiful face. This cheeky little brother vibe must be cute to the Odolskis. It’s cute to me too. It’s soothing to the eyes when Mary and Yumika are together.
“What’s wrong, big bro? With that stupid look on your face, you’ll get scolded by grandpa again for not being serious, you know?”
Though When he opens his mouth, the soothing feeling disappears in an instant. Yumika is definitely our mascot No. 1. I’ll hug her and pet her when I get home.
“But it’s not easy to encounter dragon species, as expected. The Canirunia folks will probably come in considerable numbers, so I want to prepare as much meat as possible.”
“Normally, you wouldn’t want to encounter dragon species even if you died, but for big bro, they’re just high-quality ingredients, huh? What do you think? I think there’s a higher chance of finding them if we go a little further in.”
“That’s true… We don’t necessarily have to hunt today. If we don’t find anything after a bit more, let’s head back.”
“I appreciate your rational judgment. When the big ones start coming out, I won’t be much help.”
Mary is as an assassin. Indeed, her knives won’t penetrate creatures the size of the Crazed Bears we just encountered. However, it’s been shown that she’s unmatched against smaller sizes, especially human-sized small magical beasts.
” First deliver a single blow to the vital spots.
Then disappear from sight → approach → thrust a large blade into the vital spots.
That’s the basic sequence.
What’s scary is, that even though he’s a boy with a variety of expressions, as soon as he spots prey, his expression goes blank, and then when the prey stops moving, he smiles broadly.
“Big opponents are Big bro’s specialty, so it’s basically a one-sided torture which is safe you know, but… Is being protected all the time really okay for a man?”
He talks about his pride as a man with a laugh, but it’s so damn cute, even though the blade hanging from his waist is covered in blood.
“It’s a difference in expertise. Conversely, I’m not good with agile magical beasts.”
Rex Hesselinque seems to be able to use magic other than summoning, but his forte is large-scale magical beasts and extermination battles. Hence, he prefers to leave everything else to others.
“In this case, if there are some troublemakers among the Canirunia group, I won’t be able to handle them alone. We can’t possibly summon Gorimaru and Drazon at the mansion, can we?”
“Please don’t do it under any circumstances! Alice and the others will die under the rubble of the ruined mansion. Besides, no one would rampage in front of me, big bro, and Grandpa. Normally though.”
“Are you implying something?”
“This time, it’s not normal because there’s someone special. Big bro’s prospective bride, Amy? She’s dangerous. Even if I were told to aim for her during my active duty days, I probably wouldn’t have been able to take her down without getting injured.”
“So you mean you could’ve taken her down if you were prepared to get injured?”
“No, I mean injuries that would make returning to the field impossible. Well, that’s just if it were me alone. If it were grandpa and me, we could probably get away with minor injuries, and if Od bro were there too, it would be a complete shutout.”
“In that case, let’s deal with the marriage proposal with complete peace of mind. I’m counting on you, Mary.”
“As you wish… Ah, Od bro told me to fix my manners, but I still can’t get used to it.”
It’s okay, don’t force yourself.
The warrior character is saturated.
Being raised as an assassin and a woman alone is enough.
“Let’s put an end to this negative conversation here. This marriage proposal has the potential to contribute greatly to the development of our family. I want to keep Miss Amy, whom Mary speaks so highly of, in this mansion.”
“Oh, really? Isn’t that great? She’s top-tier as a combat force. She was just a nice girl when she was being normal. It might work out surprisingly well.”
“I hope so.”
I do hope it turns out that way.
I’m not particularly shallow, and while I have this image that noble marriages aren’t about romance, I’m still human, so compatibility matters.Â
There are plenty of people who might seem nice on the surface but turn out to be trouble if you dig deeper.Â
Of course, it’s also important if they like me back, right?Â
And for the sake of keeping things pleasant, I’d definately like to get my hands on some rare dragon meat.
[Your Excellency, have you noticed?]
“Oh, there’s something coming, isn’t there?Â
Like, not in the class of Crazed Bear and those kinds of creatures.”
[Indeed. Here it comes.]
Tell me in more detai– Woah, it actually came!
What is it, a giant lizard?Â
Oh, is this a dragon species!?
[Threat level A, Maddest Salamander, a dragon species classified above the middle tier. It lacks flight abilities but uses its swift movements and breath of flames to subdue its prey. Naturally, it also has exceptional durability.]
The Maddest Salamander, with its red-black scales covering its entire body, a long, hanging tongue, and flames erupting periodically from its back.
It seems to be about the same size as Gorimaru and Drazon, maybe a bit smaller.
It exudes a much more intimidating presence than the crazed bears.
“Mary!”
“Yeah, this one’s bad news. Sorry, but I’d just be a hindrance.”
“That doesn’t matter. Do you think we can eat this?”
“Huh?”
“It doesn’t look great, but there’s a chance the meat is surprisingly tasty…”
Hey, Command-san, Command-san! Can you tell us if this thing is delicious?
[Truly! Exceptional! Taste! The Maddest Salamander is known for its exceptional taste among dragon species, despite their scarce availability. The meat holds heat even before cooking, and if it’s fresh, it can be eaten raw. In fact, thinly sliced raw meat is considered the most delicious way to enjoy it.]
That’s incredible heat.
Bird sashimi and beef sashimi is delicious, isn’t it?
I get it.
If the liver tastes good, it’s even better, right?
[I’m convinced that we can understand each other.]
Right?
That’s what I thought too.
I won’t let you escape, dragon meat!
“Come on! Gorimaru, Drazon!!”
Two huge magical beasts descend from the sky.
Gorimaru, is a giant demonic ape with two heads and four arms.
And Drazon, a dragon zombie composed solely of pure white, hard bones.
Summoning them simultaneously for the first time is quite exhausting due to the immense amount of magical energy flowing from my body.
Upon meeting each other for the first time, Gorimaru and Drazon exchange glances and seem to understand something. Gorimaru positions himself by the lizard’s head, while Drazon flanks around to its tail.
Amazing, they’re cooperating without even saying anything!
“Wow, that’s magnificent.”
“Seriously?! Isn’t running away the only option here, you crazy Count?! Damn it, add on the hazard pay!”
Okay, okay.
I’ll give you hazard pay and deduct the portion of cussing me afterward.
Now, from the perspective of the lizard, it’s got Gorimaru at the front gate and Dorazon at the back.
It’s definitely a threat level A.
As an amateur in this world, I can’t afford to hold back.
“Attack!!!”
Against the rampaging lizard breathing fire and shaking its massive body, Gorimaru relentlessly pounds it with all four of its arms, despite its fur being scorched. Meanwhile, Drazon tightens its grip with its thick bones, as if to say, “Fire won’t work on a dragon!”
“That’s it, good! Now, finish it off!”
In response to my maximum excitement, it seemed like each of them also ramped up a gear.
In fact, it didn’t take long until the lizard stopped moving.
Its body was contorted and its head was unrecognizable.
I received the best parts of the lizard’s life stone and meat from Gorimaru, allowing the two of them to eat the rest.
Perhaps it’s because I’m connected to them,
The moment I conveyed that it was okay to eat, I felt their excitement surge incredibly.
There, there, it’s all good.
Eat as much as you like.
Haha, good job, good job.
Stop hugging me, it hurts.
“Total victory… damn, catching up to these monsters is impossible, isn’t it?”
Oh, Mary seems fine too.
I was worried she might get caught up in the chaos since she was running around quite a bit.
It would be a disaster if her beautiful face got scarred.
Even though I’m a guy.
“Mary, are you injured? Alice and Yumika will fuss over you if you get hurt.”
“Thanks to you, I’m unharmed. But I can’t help but feel emotionally scarred. Ugh, the journey ahead seems endless.”
She seems to be grumbling, but she’s probably around the age of adolescence in her past life.
I don’t want to be disliked by the boyish Mary for being too nosy.
That would be terrible.
“I won’t ask for details, but if something happens, tell me before it’s too late. I’m on your side, Mary.”
“Hmph, still trying to deceive people, huh?”
Uh, not a favorable response.
I should choose a courageous retreat now, as pushing further could risk escalating the situation.
“Alright, we’ve got what we came for, so let’s head back. Leave the rest to the beasts we’ll encounter on the way out. I’d like to avoid summoning them repeatedly after such consecutive battles.”
“Got it. Fortunately, it seems like most of them retreated deeper after the commotion just now. Unless it’s something significant, we can leave them be.”
“Please do. If we can get back early, let’s enjoy tasting the dragon meat tonight.”
“Oh, so you understand, commander. But keep the alcohol in moderation, okay? It’s not good to hear that the head of the house is hungover day after day.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
Well, I doubt rumors about the Hesselink domain are even circulating.
I’m just a lunatic shouting about true love while hunting monsters.
Adding a bit of alcoholism to the mix wouldn’t make much of a difference.
But maybe it’s better to have no flaws before the matchmaking.
What kind of person is Miss Amy?
It’s scary that there’s hardly any information other than her unusual strength and her fondness for children.
[There are no good rumors about you either, are there? As far as I understand, the Canirunia family isn’t in such a dire situation that they had to resort to a marriage proposal with you.]
Everyone’s got something harsh to say.
There were no good rumors about the former Rex Hesselink, right?
Well, maybe that’s why I’ve been able to avoid political marriages.
It would be terrible to end up with a wife without any love between us.
At least that’s one thing Rex Hesselink did right.
[Speaking of the lunatic Rex, he is revered as a figure of awe among our generation. For better or worse.]
Rex Hesselink, I still can’t forgive you.
[But his power is more than enough to succeed as the Lord, although like the previous Hesselink Counts, he’s difficult to handle and if ever his spear is pointed at oneself, it would be nothing more than death.]
Well, he’s never actually directed that power at anyone other than monsters, right?
I’m not talking about what you just said, but It would be a big problem if he summoned creatures in the middle of town.
That’s a question of responsibility you know, a responsibility issue.
[But what about Mary’s background? How did you, Rex Hesselink, rescue him from the assassins’ organization?]
