After reading his new panel, Wayne could only think of three words,
“Who else is there?”
From A- to SS-, Wayne’s confidence soared.
Upon receiving the template, he learned a lot about Andros. He was a famous wizard from ancient Greece, renowned for his terrifying ability to cast spells without a wand and summon massive Patronuses. This was unprecedented at the time and remains unmatched even now.
A Patronus’s strength reflects the caster’s positive emotions; the stronger the Patronus, the greater the caster’s righteousness. Thus, Andros was known as both “Invincible Andros” and “Saint Andros.” Although he was rated SS-, Andros’s true power far exceeded what the system evaluated. If his Dark Arts, Potions, and Alchemy could reach S-level, Wayne had no doubt Andros’s rating would soar.
This wasn’t just a starter pack; it was like activating an invincible cheat code!
“System, if you’re not returning my points, that’s fine; I can earn more later. How about sending me a compensation package?”
Wayne waited for a response, but after a long silence, he heard a servant calling him for dinner, so he had to give up.
After dinner, Wayne wasted no time diving back into his studies of magic. It was like a child with a beloved toy—he wouldn’t let go until he was bored. Magic was far more interesting than any toy.
Even without a wand, Wayne found he could still use magic easily, likely due to his wandless casting talent. He made a cup float around the room and then squeezed his hand tightly!
Crash!
The priceless teacup shattered into pieces, scattering across the floor.
He imagined restoring the cup, but this time he failed. Although the pieces came together, the cracks were still visible.
“Is it because I didn’t use a spell?” Wayne pondered, trying to remember the incantation for restoration, but when he shouted it, the cup remained broken.
“That’s just impossible,” he chuckled, shaking his head. If spells were that easy, there wouldn’t be a need for textbooks; just hand out a spell dictionary instead.
There must be more to it.
…
Wayne spent the entire night exploring magic, only stopping when Humphrey arrived at his house. He was tired but exhilarated. The room was a disaster, with tea sets turned into shards, making the servants gasp in horror. The value of the broken items exceeded their monthly wages.
“Didn’t sleep well last night?” Humphrey asked, noticing Wayne resting with his eyes closed. He understood; after all, children are naturally curious about magic.
Wayne didn’t argue and simply hummed in acknowledgment.
At exactly nine o’clock, the doorbell rang.
“They’re here.”
Humphrey’s expression shifted as he processed the sound, and Wayne opened his eyes, curious about which professor had been sent.
When the door opened, there was no one to be seen, just emptiness. Suddenly, a tabby cat walked in, and in a moment that left the servants and Humphrey stunned, it transformed into a woman around fifty or sixty years old. She had a serious expression, wore square glasses, and was draped in a green cloak topped with a tall wizard hat—perfectly fitting the description of a wizard from fantasy stories.
Seeing the stunned servants, she furrowed her brow and waved her wand. The servants seemed to snap out of it and went about their business.
“I apologize for startling you. I’ve proven too many times that I’m not a fraud, so I had to take a more direct approach.”
“I am Minerva McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts and Head of Gryffindor House.”
Professor McGonagall introduced herself smoothly. As one of Hogwarts’s most dedicated teachers, she visited many Muggle-born young witches and wizards each summer to prove that wizards existed and that their letters were no joke. She was clearly experienced.
“Hello, Professor McGonagall. I’m Wayne Lawrence.”
Wayne quietly assessed this mature… no, elderly cat lady and felt fortunate. Having McGonagall as his guide in this new world was much better than having Hagrid or Snape.
“Mr. Lawrence,” she nodded, admiring how cute he looked compared to the “odd” students of her time. Remembering the earlier shock, she added, “It’s best not to let too many Muggles know about magic. Please don’t worry; I only used a Confundus Charm.”
Then she turned to Humphrey, who had been sitting quietly, observing.
“And who might this be? Your father?”
“No, he’s my uncle. My parents passed away a long time ago,” Wayne replied. McGonagall’s expression turned apologetic and sympathetic.
“I’m very sorry; I didn’t know.”
“It’s okay,” Wayne smiled gently.
At that moment, Humphrey finally spoke up, “Wayne, now that we know she’s not a fraud, I can relax. I’m off to work now.”
He chose not to stay and accompany Wayne to Diagon Alley for school supplies. Although he found his nephew troublesome, he knew Wayne was clever and wouldn’t get into trouble.
Before leaving, Humphrey leaned in and said,
“If you encounter any issues at school, you can contact the Department of Magical Law Enforcement’s Head, Millicent Bagnold. She might be able to assist you.”
As McGonagall looked on in surprise, Humphrey left in a hurry.
“Although Bagnold retired a year ago, the current Minister is Fudge, but…”
“Mr. Lawrence, could you explain why your uncle knows about the Ministry of Magic?”
