Gu Yue was pushed onto the sofa chair. Bu Zhongyao sat on him, reaching into his pants pocket while raising an eyebrow. She said, “Fortunately, I locked the door when I came in. Alright, stop pretending. Let’s get straight to the point.”
“Wait!” Gu Yue hurriedly grabbed her restless hands, his body tense.
Bu Zhongyao tutted twice. “You weren’t this hesitant before. Has it been so long that you’ve forgotten how to do it?”
Gu Yue fumbled anxiously. “Stop it, I don’t have that kind of intention!”
Bu Zhongyao rummaged in his pocket for a long time but couldn’t find the essential item for the activity. She frowned and asked, “You didn’t bring the little raincoat today?”
Gu Yue’s face flushed. “I already told you I didn’t have that kind of intention today!”
Losing interest, Bu Zhongyao climbed off him. Sitting on the sofa with her arms crossed, she gave Gu Yue a skeptical look.
Gu Yue hurriedly sat upright, zipped up his pants, and buttoned his shirt. This handsome young man now looked as if he had aged ten years, letting out a deep sigh.
Bu Zhongyao asked, “Did you call me here today to break up with me?”
Gu Yue looked at her.
She continued, “Surely you didn’t just invite me over to watch a movie, did you?”
Gu Yue said, “It’s really just to watch a movie.”
Bu Zhongyao pursed her lips and leaned back on the sofa. “Fine, let’s watch the movie then.”
Gu Yue looked conflicted as he slowly walked to the TV, picking up the box containing the disc.
Bu Zhongyao, in a lazy tone, said, “So much has happened lately. I used to scoff at Bai Yao and Shen Ji being together, but now, seeing how inseparable they are every day, pure love doesn’t seem so bad.”
Gu Yue replied perfunctorily with a “Hmm.”
Bu Zhongyao continued nonchalantly, “We’re graduating next year. Why don’t we just get engaged?”
Gu Yue’s hand trembled as he held the box. He turned to look at Bu Zhongyao. “Engaged?”
“Yeah,” Bu Zhongyao said matter-of-factly. “We’ve been together for so long. It’s about time we got engaged. Or are you thinking of breaking up with me and going along with your family’s arrangements to find someone else?”
In their social circle, it was common to get engaged after graduation, followed by marriage. If they didn’t find someone suitable during school, they would just follow their family’s arrangements to find a match of equal social standing.
Lately, Bu Zhongyao had felt that she and Gu Yue were quite compatible. Being together was effortless, and both were carefree.
However, the topic of engagement had been something they tacitly avoided until now.
Gu Yue clutched the box in his hand and asked, “Why… did you suddenly decide to stay with me after graduation?”
Bu Zhongyao looked uneasy. She turned her face away and mumbled, “If it weren’t for your good looks, I wouldn’t even have thought about it.”
Gu Yue’s grip on the object in his hand tightened, his entire arm trembling slightly.
Bu Zhongyao urged, “Are you going to play the movie or not? If you don’t know how, let me do it.”
She got up and walked over. Before she could snatch the item from his hand, Gu Yue suddenly shouted, “Get out!”
Bu Zhongyao froze. “What did you say?”
“I said, get out! I don’t want to see you!”
“Hey, Gu Yue, what’s your problem?”
Bu Zhongyao was pushed out of the screening room by Gu Yue, and the door was immediately shut. No matter how hard she knocked, there was no response from inside. Furious, she kicked the door. “Gu Yue, no one has ever yelled at me like that before! If you have the guts to hide in there for the rest of your life, fine. But if you come out, I swear I’ll teach you a lesson!”
Everything had been fine earlier—what was he suddenly freaking out about?
Stomping her foot in frustration, Bu Zhongyao turned and left in anger.
Gu Yue threw the item in his hand to the ground. He squatted down, hugging himself and trembling. The clock on the wall ticked incessantly, a reminder that as soon as the clock struck midnight, the female ghost would come to claim his life.
Gu Yue was terrified of dying, yet he was angry at himself for squandering a chance to survive by foolishly driving her away.
He couldn’t articulate his emotions clearly. On one hand, he imagined that after his death, his stepmother’s son would inherit all his father’s assets. On the other, he pictured Bu Zhongyao in the future, surrounded by admirers, completely forgetting about him. He clutched his head and broke down into helpless sobs.
He was so young—he didn’t want to die!
If he had another chance to live, he vowed to turn over a new leaf, to stop being fickle. Even if Bu Zhongyao insisted on pulling down his zipper every day, he’d endure it.
Suddenly, the television screen lit up.
Gu Yue raised his head, and to his shock, saw someone sitting on the sofa. He jumped in fright. “Bai Yao!”
What is she doing here?
Bai Yao sat leisurely on the sofa, staring at the snowy static on the TV screen. Hearing his voice, she turned to look at the cowering Gu Yue in the corner and greeted him with a smile. “Yo.”
Yo? What is that supposed to mean?
Gu Yue stood up. “When did you get here?”
Bai Yao replied lazily, “A little earlier than you.”
Gu Yue’s eyes widened. “You’ve been hiding here this whole time, watching us… watching us…”
“Relax, I didn’t see Bu Zhongyao unzip your pants, nor did I hear you two mention not bringing the little raincoat.”
Gu Yue felt humiliated to the point of wishing for death.
On the TV screen appeared a familiar scene of a woman combing her hair in front of a mirror.
Gu Yue’s face turned pale with shock. “Bai Yao, anyone who watches this movie is cursed! You’ll die in seven days!”
Bai Yao remained completely unbothered and even invited Gu Yue to sit down and watch it with her. “The movie has already started. Let’s just finish it together.”
Gu Yue exclaimed, “Did you even hear what I said? This movie is cursed! The female ghost in it…”
“If it’s past midnight and you’re still alive, then that would prove the curse is ineffective, right?”
Gu Yue froze. Is this woman insane?
Bai Yao narrowed her eyes slightly, staring at the TV screen. She let out a slow, deliberate laugh. “I’m curious to see if this female ghost will really crawl out of the television and kill someone.”
Her fists clenched tightly, making a cracking sound, hinting at hidden danger.
A sharp crack came from the TV as the comb in the woman’s hand snapped in two.
Late at night, after parting ways with some girlfriends she had met up with for a drink, Bu Zhongyao was still fuming as she walked back to the dormitory. She kept cursing Gu Yue in her mind for being so clueless about romance.
Gu Yue’s strange behavior today—could it be that he was planning to break up with me?
Seething with anger, Bu Zhongyao took another swig of alcohol, but her rage didn’t subside in the slightest. Throughout her life, the only person who had ever gotten the better of her was Bai Yao. She would never allow herself to be dumped! If Gu Yue dared to break up with her, she’d make sure he paid for it—by cutting off his d*ck!
“I told you, Gu Yue isn’t good enough for you.”
The sudden voice startled Bu Zhongyao, and she looked up.
In the darkness, Wei Suo slowly approached. Seeing her face full of anger, he felt a surge of smugness, though his expression was filled with feigned sympathy. “See? When it comes to life and death, he still chose to sacrifice you.”
Bu Zhongyao frowned. “What are you talking about?”
Wei Suo said sympathetically, “He watched that movie and is now cursed by Sadako. He’ll die within seven days. Today happens to be the last day. The only way to break the curse is to have someone close to him watch the same movie, transferring the curse so he can survive.”
Judging from Bu Zhongyao’s furious demeanor, Wei Suo was certain that Gu Yue must have followed his suggestion.
His efforts hadn’t been in vain—finding the cursed movie, passing it to Bu Zhongyao, and turning Gu Yue into the cursed victim.
Seeing Bu Zhongyao standing there in a daze, Wei Suo moved closer to her and gently said, “Don’t worry, I’ll find a way to save you. I can make a wish to the deity, and they’ll surely lift the curse. Zhongyao, be with me. I’ll treat you better than Gu Yue ever could.”
Bu Zhongyao wasn’t the sharpest person, but she wasn’t stupid. In an instant, she pieced together many things. As Wei Suo approached, she smashed the bottle in her hand over his head. “F*ck you!”
The bottle shattered, scattering shards everywhere and Wei Suo fell to the ground.
Bu Zhongyao turned and bolted into the depths of the night.
“Ah! Wei Suo!” Lu Zhizhi, who happened to be passing by, quickly ran over to help the fallen Wei Suo. Arriving late, she had only seen Bu Zhongyao hitting him and was instantly outraged. “Bu Zhongyao is too much! She actually attacked someone! We have to report this to the teacher!”
Wei Suo clutched his injured head, blood dripping continuously. He hung his head low, his expression dark and foreboding.
