The Female Supporting Character Refuses to Be Human Again - Chapter 134.2
While the elders discussed excitedly, Meng Changjin remained quiet. She realized why the elders had been coughing earlier — she had been so absorbed in refining pills over the past few days that she hadn’t noticed how disheveled she looked. Her robes were torn, and her face was covered in soot from her frequent failures.
Knocking on the table, she said, “Let’s get to the point. I heard Shaoqi didn’t return with Elder Xin Lan. What happened?”
On her way here, Meng Changjin had overheard bits and pieces of conversation. Her supposedly “beloved” core disciple Wu Shaoqi hadn’t returned with Xin Lan, which caused her temples to throb slightly. She worried he might have provoked someone powerful and gotten himself killed.
“Don’t worry, Sect Master, Shaoqi is fine. He’s just returning with the new disciples,” Xin Lan hurriedly explained.
Meng Changjin wasn’t worried about Wu Shaoqi himself; she was more concerned about whether he had provoked a powerful enemy for Wanhuang Sect. At her current level, facing too strong an enemy would be disastrous.
“He didn’t cause any trouble, did he?” Meng Changjin asked, though she was feeling uneasy.
As expected, Xin Lan’s expression turned strange.
“Speak, Elder Xin Lan, I can handle it,” Meng Changjin urged, her voice tight with anxiety.
“Trouble? Not exactly. He’s actually done something big this time,” Xin Lan replied, shaking her head slightly.
“What kind of big thing?” Meng Changjin had a bad feeling in her gut.
And then she learned why.
“He managed to convince about a third of the disciples who originally intended to join higher-ranked sects to come to Wanhuang Sect instead,” Xin Lan explained, looking somewhat bewildered herself.
The other elders were equally stunned.
“C-Convinced them?” Elder Bi Yu stuttered, her mind reeling.
While the elders were in a daze, Meng Changjin just looked like she’d expected it all along.
Of course, she thought. Wu Shaoqi couldn’t leave without stirring up something! However, at least this time, it wasn’t bringing trouble but instead, something beneficial.
She wasn’t worried about the reactions of the other sects. As long as Wu Shaoqi hadn’t persuaded disciples already committed to other sects to defect, at worst, the other sects would be annoyed but not hostile.
🌟 Kliraz’s Tidbit: The Power of Words! (^_~) 🌟
Wu Shaoqi’s knack for persuasion seems almost supernatural! In Chinese folklore, the art of speaking or convincing others (说服力 Shuōfúlì) has always been seen as a potent force. From scholars persuading emperors to warriors rallying troops, words can shape destinies. Wu Shaoqi might just be the sect’s new secret weapon, one word at a time!
Did you know that in some traditional Chinese martial arts novels, characters use their charisma and eloquence almost like a superpower? This is a nod to the historical belief in the power of rhetoric (Yang, M. (2019). The Art of Persuasion in Ancient China. Journal of Cultural History, 27(3), 211-234).
