- Chapter 150 - Side Story 6: Be Safe Today Too
The duchy was indeed a sweet spot for Regina.
Duchess Peresca, accustomed to an excessively polite son and a daughter of reserved nature, found Regina, who ran around causing mischief, utterly endearing.
On her grandparents’ shoulders, Regina could frolic carefree, unafraid of Hamilton’s nagging.
Well, that lasted only a few days.
***
“…May I ask what game this is, daughter?”
On a late night when the heavy rain began, Caesar, leaning against his armchair while reading a book, momentarily lost his words at the sight of his daughter’s unexpected appearance.
Regina wore a pot on her head, made a cape out of a blanket, and held a wooden sword in her hand.
“That doesn’t quite look like sleepwear.”
“It’s dangerous on rainy days.”
“Because you might slip?”
“They say ghosts come out.”
“Ghosts?”
“Do you know? They say a ghost of a woman in a blue dress appears in the basement of this mansion when it rains.”
“Oh dear. Who told you such a story?”
“Hamilton did.” Regina’s expression was very solemn.
Maintaining a smiling expression, Caesar quickly started planning in his mind how to torment Hamilton tomorrow.
“Well, uh… Does Emma know you’re here?”
“I’m not sure. I sneaked away secretly.”
Why were the women he loved so independent?
Thinking of Emma, probably rummaging through the mansion by now, Caesar sent a silent, sympathetic comfort in his mind.
“You shouldn’t have troubled the nanny, though, right?”
“But I had no choice! This mansion is not safe at all! I have to protect Mother and Father!” Regina shouted, shaking her clenched fist up and down. “So tonight, I will sleep with my Mother and Father!”
Promising protection was an excuse; wanting to sleep together because of fear was the correct answer.
Caesar couldn’t help but chuckle at his daughter’s adorable play on words. Setting aside the book he was reading for a moment, he opened his arms and called Regina.
Regina, as if she had been waiting, dashed over to Caesar and nestled into his embrace.
“Though your intentions are noble, causing trouble by not listening to the nanny was wrong.”
“Will Emma start hating me?”
“She might.”
“What about Mother and Father?” Regina looked at Caesar with a frightened expression.
“Mom and Dad will love Regina no matter what kind of person she is. But it would be better if you were a daughter loved by more people, if possible.”
“…I’m sorry. I won’t deceive or tease Emma anymore, or put a fart doll on Emma’s chair.”
What’s a fart doll again? Why did his feelings of guilt toward Emma keep rising?
Caesar chuckled dryly, gently patting Regina’s head. “And this mansion is not dangerous at all.”
“Even with ghosts?”
“That ghost is only visible to Hamilton, so it’s okay.”
“Really?”
“Yep. And with Mom and Dad around, wherever they are, it’s a safe place.”
“Can you defeat ghosts too?”
“Of course,” Caesar replied with a smirk. Honestly, if it were Helena, she might even slay them.”
At that moment, a knock came, and Leonard entered the room.
Regina, upon spotting Leonard, startled and hid her head between Caesar’s arms.
“I was asked by Emma if Princess Regina might be here, so I came to check…” Leonard glanced at Regina’s raised bottom and gave a wistful smile.
As if in response to his expression, Caesar shrugged. “Well, this is how it turned out.”
“Yes. I’ll have to inform Emma. She’s been wandering around with a lost look, claiming she couldn’t see anything in the dark.”
“Tell her not to worry, I’ll sleep with Regina tonight.”
“Understood.”
After a nod of acknowledgment, Leonard left the room. As the door closed, Regina peeked her head up.
“See, Regina? Heard that?”
Knowing that Emma was worried meant that now there shouldn’t be anything to worry her further.
“Yes! I can sleep with Father tonight, right?!” Regina answered with a bright smile.
At four years old, she only hears what she wants to hear. I feel like I should scold her, but I’m nevermind. She’s too adorable; I can’t bring myself to say anything.
Caesar, as if conceding defeat, let out a long sigh, then swiftly lifted Regina up and stood up from his seat. “All right, let’s sleep in the safest place for Regina tonight.”
“Yay!”
He seemed too soft on people with silver hair. Well, he couldn’t change that, and frankly, he didn’t even want to try.

When she returned to the bedroom after conversing with the duchy’s staff, she found two unexpected figures already there.
Helena, not hiding her surprise, glanced around with folded arms, eyeing her bed.
Caesar and Regina lay in the middle of the spacious bed, hugging each other, peacefully asleep.
“What in the…?”
Though Leonard had mentioned that Regina might sleep with them tonight, Helena hadn’t expected both of them to be already asleep.
‘Where am I supposed to sleep now?’
She worried about disturbing them if she climbed onto the bed, especially knowing Caesar’s difficulty in falling into a deep sleep.
‘Hmm… maybe the guest room?’
She wasn’t inclined to wake them. After much contemplation, Helena turned away from the bed.
But before she could take two steps, a hand grabbed her from behind, halting her movement.
“Where do you think you’re going to sleep?”
The hushed voice near her ear sent a shiver down Helena’s spine.
Not just the voice, but the secretive embrace around her waist made her almost gasp aloud.
Savoring the presence of the imposing man behind her, Helena, looking up as if at the ceiling, whispered softly, “I was planning to sleep in my mom’s room.”
“It’s difficult. I can’t sleep well without you, Helena.”
“Were you awake all this time?”
“I sang Regina lullabies until she fell asleep.”
Caesar’s lullabies. Helena, recalling them, couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.
Caesar’s lips lightly brushed against Helena’s neck before retreating. Then, he swiftly embraced Helena and moved her to the adjacent room, gently settling her onto the spacious couch.
“How did Regina end up here?”
“It seems Hamilton scared her with stories about ghosts in the basement. She got scared and decided to come here to sleep together.”
“Oh dear. That brings up some memories I’d rather forget.”
A forgotten incident buried deep in the recesses of memory, yet brought back so vividly. Helena promised herself she wouldn’t let Hamilton get away with this tomorrow.
After laying Helena on the couch, Caesar casually untied her negligee ribbon, chuckling to himself. “If you were a little younger back then and scared, would you have run to my bedroom asking to sleep together?”
“If I were scared and wanted to sleep together because of it, it wouldn’t have been with you, but my brother instead.”
“Well… it’s fortunate Helena was a brave child who wasn’t scared of ghosts.”
Caesar’s lips left a mark on Helena’s exposed chest. The reddish imprint resembling flower petals gradually emerged on her fair skin.
Helena, running her fingers through Caesar’s black locks, spoke leisurely, “By the way, young Caesar seems to have trespassed into my bedroom quite a few times without permission. Doesn’t that sound familiar?”
“He probably learned how to trespass into others’ bedrooms through windows from some mischievous kid.”
“Ah, I see. Did that mischievous kid’s name start with an ‘H’?”
“It used to, but I think it also started with a ‘D’ at times.”
Amidst giggles and whispered conversations, the two intertwined, their breaths merging together.
Caesar’s large hand traced the curve of Helena’s leg teasingly, prompting her to shoot him a mischievous glance. “Is your injured leg feeling better?”
“When did you expect me to stop complaining about it?”
“I’m sorry. If only I had gotten off the carriage a bit sooner, the fall might have been avoidable.”
“No need to apologize. I consider it fortunate that I could show my brave and wonderful fatherly side while protecting our daughter.”
“You risked your life for that.”
“It’s not easy for me to die. I plan to live until the day Regina becomes an adult and takes over the throne.”
“After that, you still need to live for a long, long time, Caesar.” Helena stroked Caesar’s cheek and spoke in an authoritative yet casual tone. “Pass the throne to our eldest daughter quickly, and then let’s enjoy a leisurely life together.”
“A leisurely life? Is that spending all day fooling around and considering what we want to do leisurely?”
“Yeah, with me.”
“That sounds great. Hopefully, we can live peacefully and safely until then.”
“Without getting involved in accidents like a few days ago?”
“Even if I do get involved, I’ll handle it. Helena, you just plan carefully for a safe retirement.”
This time, Caesar’s lips met Helena’s precisely. Helena pulled him closer, actively engaging in the kiss.
After a prolonged kiss that left both breathless, Caesar, breathing lightly, spoke, “By the way, mentioning ‘eldest daughter,’ does that mean there might be second or third children coming along?”
“We can’t predict the future. As someone from about 500 years ago, I learned this.” Helena narrowed her eyes playfully and chuckled. “But today happens to be my risky day.”
“Is that so?” Caesar lightly teased and sat up a bit, looking as though he spoke of something significant, yet his expression indicated everything was perfectly fine. “Life’s interesting with a bit of danger and thrill, don’t you think?”
“Just a few minutes ago, someone was talking about safety, I wonder where they went?” Helena provocatively tilted her head with a mischievous smile.
“Let’s just get tangled up in it for today,” Caesar replied.
Sure, sounds good.
Whether it’s a safe place or a risky one, it’s welcome as long as we’re together.
Helena hugged Caesar tightly, a gesture of consent.
The sounds of their racing hearts resonated throughout their embraced bodies. The blend of their heartbeats intertwined with a distant sound of raindrops, creating a dream-like sensation.
‘But realizing this isn’t all a dream is quite astonishing.’
The past is gone, and the future holds only new experiences—unfamiliar, exciting, eagerly anticipated, a bit risky.
“Living with you is as precious and sweet as honey at my fingertips.”
In response to Helena’s confession, Caesar kissed her passionately.
Deeply, deeply. So deeply that even counting seconds would be forgotten in the ecstasy.
***
During the imperial family’s vacation, unverified rumors spread far and wide.
There were tales of a female knight’s soul rising from the Holden territory, leading an army of awakened knights, sweeping through the bandits’ stronghold.
On the pathways around that territory, during rainy days, echoes of subordinates lamenting their failure to protect their lord could be heard.
One stormy day, Hamilton supposedly encountered a ghostly woman in an intensely blue dress at the estate and recounted his experience. Yet, akin to a liar shepherd, no one believed him. He even claimed the ghost had blue hair. Helena and the three disciples teased Hamilton the most about his ghostly account, finding great amusement in it.
Some are truths, others mere hearsay, and a few distorted truths.
Despite harboring various potential dangers, everyone’s world remained peaceful and secure today.
Tomorrow is sure to arrive.
Numerous unexperienced events are still waiting.
And undoubtedly, because you’re here.
The end.
