The Protagonist is Always Intimidating Me - Chapter 36
The atmosphere grew tense.
“…Qingxuan, is what he said true?” Feng Suiling looked at Feng Qingxuan with a trembling gaze, his delicate, effeminate face full of grievance.
“…It’s my fault.” Feng Qingxuan held the tearful Feng Suiling, feeling a pang of heartache for his childhood friend who had been repeatedly hurt. It was his own carelessness that led to Bai Meng’s current arrogance.
“!!!”
Mo Hankui, seemingly provoked by their embrace, stared blankly as he gathered his Sheng energy. Just as he was about to act, Bai Meng, sensing this, threw himself into his arms and subtly held him down, keeping him restrained.
“Hankui, don’t make a scene! We still have company here!” Bai Meng pretended to shyly nestle into his embrace.
Mo Hankui, with his hands immobilized: “……”
The strength in his hands gradually weakened, eventually giving way without resistance. Bai Meng lifted his gaze and saw Mo Hankui watching him, his gray eyes filled with warmth.
…He’s back to himself…
Bai Meng lowered his eyelashes with a soft smile, visibly relaxing.
Mo Hankui couldn’t remember what had just happened, feeling dazed for a moment. When he regained his senses, he found Bai Meng snuggled obediently in his arms, his warmth seeping through his clothes, instantly softening Mo Hankui’s heart. Just as he was about to hold him closer, Bai Meng nimbly ducked away, slipping out of his embrace.
Mo Hankui, left empty-handed: “???”
The members of Xingge Hall: “……”
We can’t keep up with whatever you two are doing.
Noticing that Yinchen Hall likely didn’t wish to watch this spectacle unfold, the previously warm atmosphere in Xingge Hall shifted as Feng Suiling calmly spoke up, “…Qingxuan, just tell me everything. What else haven’t I endured by now, anyway…”
“Could you accept a situation where men bear children?” Mo Lengsui raised an eyebrow, unimpressed by Feng Suiling’s melodramatic tone.
“So next you’ll say something like, ‘Even though you’re a man, don’t worry; with me around, you’ll raise your child in honor!’” Mo Lei chimed in from the side.
“F*ck, that’s incredible, hahaha!” Bai Meng burst out laughing, holding his stomach, and others laughed either openly or subtly. Even Mo Hankui’s mouth curved upward as he looked fondly at Bai Meng, who was laughing so hard he almost fell over. The inn was soon filled with a warm, joyful atmosphere.
Feng Qingxuan: “……”
Feng Suiling: “……”
A barely restrained killing intent flashed in Feng Suiling’s eyes as he gritted his teeth, forcibly suppressing his rage to maintain his composure and remember his purpose for being there.
“…You…You’ve gone too far!” Feng Suiling trembled, his eyes rimmed red with fury. Feng Qingxuan hastily embraced him with deep concern, turning to warn Bai Meng, “Enough! You’re just a stand-in. You took advantage of the tolerance I once showed you, acting recklessly without recognizing your limits, even disrespecting Suiling like this! I’ve had enough!”
Bai Meng: “???”
What is he even talking about???
“Sending you to Xingge Hall was clearly the right choice. You and they are birds of a feather, filthy scums!”
The room fell silent.
With his words, Feng Qingxuan had essentially insulted the entire Xingge Hall, but with Mo Hankui currently passive, the others had no choice but to endure this humiliation.
Bai Meng’s smile faded, though the corners of his mouth stayed lifted without any warmth. He looked at the two in the distance, repeating each word slowly, “Stand-in? Scum? Birds of a feather?”
Bai Meng chuckled, his voice laced with sarcasm, “You mean I’m a stand-in when it comes to being scum?! Should I apologize for actually having principles? You push your luck, playing by such double standards! Any decent person has some dignity, but you don’t—and now you’re all puffed up with pride?”
Everyone: “……”
“Always dragging the Xingge Hall into everything. I wonder why. I willingly followed Mo Hankui back then, but to you, that’s ‘being sent’? Are you trying to attract my attention? Well, congratulations, dumbass. You’ve succeeded. Are you satisfied now?”
Everyone: “……”
“People’s flaws can be corrected, but you’re so messed up, you need to be remade from scratch. My respect to you!”
After finishing, Bai Meng raised his fists in a mock salute and then went over to pour himself a drink.
Oh my, all that ranting made me thirsty.
The Xingge Hall members, having their perception of Bai Meng refreshed yet again, collectively lowered their expectations for their new captain—because listening to him brought them such wicked satisfaction.
“You!!!” Feng Qingxuan’s expression twisted with rage, his handsome face contorted and far from composed. “You think you have the right to speak here? What do you even amount to?!”
“And just what do you amount to? Go on, I’m listening—mmph mmph—”
Bai Meng’s words were suddenly cut off as Mo Hankui covered his mouth, forcing the rest of his speech back down. Holding Bai Meng close, Mo Hankui fixed Feng Qingxuan with his gray eyes, brows knitted tightly. “Apologize.”
“Heh, an apology? That’s all? I want him on his knees…”
“I want you to apologize, Lord Feng Qingxuan!”
“On…your knees… What did you just say?” Feng Qingxuan stared back at Mo Hankui, baffled.
“I said, apologize.” Mo Hankui’s expression now exuded clear disdain as he regarded the other man. “Didn’t you ask what he amounts to?”
“He’s the future consort of the Master of Xingge Hall. So those words you just spoke were an insult to him. Now, apologize!”
