The Transmigrated Male Lead Confessed to Me - Chapter 19 (Part 2)
Xiao Yu finally moved.
He retreated several paces with the seriousness of completing an important task.
Once finished, he looked at her somewhat nervously. “Like this?”
Su Zhen: “……”
She suddenly realized that if he didn’t want to be seen, he could have been invisible even standing right there. Her action was unnecessary.
She swallowed her words. “I’ll just speak to my junior sister briefly and come back. Don’t worry, I don’t want to talk to her any more than I have to.”
Then she turned and walked toward Liu Yunyao with a bit of a headache.
The latter, however, continued hesitating, lost in thought, and was too preoccupied to look at anyone else. When she saw her senior sister approaching, she quickly forced a smile.
“Senior Sister,” the girl in the red dress murmured, lowering her head slightly. “What I said before was all true. Fifth Senior Brother also said he wouldn’t harm anyone. Perhaps he thought that way once…”
Su Zhen nodded calmly. “I understand.”
Liu Yunyao looked up. “Senior Sister?”
Su Zhen replied, “You weren’t the one who urged him to kill me. If that’s what you wanted to tell me, I’ve heard it and believe it. Anything else?”
Nearby, several cultivators passed by, greeting them from a respectful distance.
“Greetings, Martial Aunt Su, Martial Aunt Liu.”
Su Zhen nodded slightly, while Liu Yunyao’s expression remained strained as she ignored them.
The group of cultivators didn’t leave immediately after greeting them. They looked at Su Zhen with obvious excitement.
One of them couldn’t hold back, “I heard that Martial Aunt Su defeated Martial Uncle Jiang in the Mingxin Hall…”
Liu Yunyao frowned.
“Is that true?” One of them asked.
Su Zhen smiled. “It finally made its way here from Lingxiao Peak?”
She knew there had been other onlookers and she wasn’t surprised by the reaction. Rumors, after all, often spiral out of control, whether for better or worse.
Su Zhen replied, “I wouldn’t call it a defeat. We just exchanged a single move, and he suffered a minor setback.”
Her words were sincere, but the listeners took it as modesty, believing the truth was likely even more severe.
The disciples of Weiyun Peak exchanged knowing glances and smiled in tacit understanding, their expressions clearly saying, We get it.
“…Martial Aunt is truly remarkable.”
They soon left, murmuring in low voices, though not trying to conceal their excitement.
“The title of Weiyun Peak’s strongest of the younger generation is about to change.”
“Exactly. I’m telling you, her cultivation level is surely higher than what she’s shown!”
“It doesn’t matter how high it is, she’s already strong. This is the first time I’ve heard of someone winning across a full realm gap…”
“Well, didn’t Jingyang Xianzun once repel a Saint realm opponent while only at the Quasi-Saint realm?”
“Uh, I was talking about someone I actually know…”
“Senior Sister.”
Liu Yunyao’s face looked even worse. “Ever since Senior Brother returned from Lingxiao Peak, he’s been in a state of turmoil. Just now, Master suddenly sensed instability in his primordial spirit, so we rushed over, only to find signs of Qi deviation…”
Oh.
It must have been his inability to understand why he’d been defeated in a single move.
Or perhaps his refusal to accept being injured by a fellow disciple a full realm lower than him.
Especially since that fellow disciple was someone he deeply despised.
These feelings of confusion and resistance would certainly have an impact on one’s mind.
Su Zhen understood this well, but even if Jiang Wang’s soul were to shatter, she wouldn’t feel any regret.
Su Zhen: “Master feared he’d lose control and hurt you, so he sent you out. Isn’t that right?”
Liu Yunyao nodded. “If Senior Sister could go see him and tell him how you did it…”
Su Zhen interrupted, “I’m curious about one thing. Why did he go to Lingxiao Peak as if he wanted to cause trouble for me?”
Liu Yunyao’s expression shifted slightly.
Su Zhen tilted her head. “If he hadn’t approached in a confrontational manner, we wouldn’t have fought. If we hadn’t fought, he wouldn’t have lost control after being injured by me.”
Liu Yunyao hesitated several times before finally saying in a low voice, “I was feeling aggrieved and said a few foolish words. He likely misunderstood.”
Su Zhen nodded. “Mmm, yes, I was nearly killed by assassins, yet I’m not the one feeling wronged. So naturally, it’s only right for my junior sister to feel wronged first.”
Liu Yunyao fell silent, at a loss for words. “Senior Sister, that’s not what I meant. I was referring to the people from the Zhou family. I was going to explain this to you, but Master sent me away…”
Su Zhen didn’t want to talk to her any further.
If their roles were reversed and someone had attempted to assassinate Liu Yunyao, her master would have lost his composure.
At least, his reaction would have been far more intense than his calm response at the Mingxin Hall.
He would, of course, have plenty of excuses, like his little disciple being too frail. But that excuse might fool others, not her—Su Zhen had read the book. Though Liu Yunyao was weaker than her, she was far stronger than an ordinary Qi Refining cultivator. With the blood of the demon clan in her veins, she wouldn’t be easily pushed around when forced into a corner.
This had many side effects, but it could still grant her power.
Her master understood this clearly.
But it didn’t stop him from always calling her weak in Su Zhen’s presence and urging Su Zhen to protect her.
He knew perfectly well.
Su Zhen said, “…Jiang Wang came looking for me, first because he’s sick in the head, and second, because of you. From start to finish, it has nothing to do with me, so when you ask if I’ll go see him, well, I only think this: if he suffers at my hands, it’s because he’s weak. If I go, that’s the only message I’ll be sending. So you decide whether or not you want me to go.”
Liu Yunyao was speechless.
Su Zhen turned and left.
Liu Yunyao seemed to reach out to stop her. “Senior Sister—”
Su Zhen didn’t look back but moved to the side as though she had eyes in the back of her head. “Don’t touch me.”
Liu Yunyao froze, her hand suspended in the air. She gritted her teeth. “Senior Sister, when Fifth Senior Brother died, and now with Senior Brother, do you truly have no feelings for your fellow disciples?”
Su Zhen found this amusing.
Zhou Ziheng had hired assassins to kill her. If she hadn’t survived by sheer luck in her past life, she would have long since perished in the wilderness of the borderlands, her body torn apart by those two demon cultivators.
This time, if she hadn’t found out about it through an unexpected twist, she would have faced the same fate.
Even though things were simpler this time, with her additional centuries of memory, she still felt Zhou Ziheng deserved to die.
Su Zhen blinked. “Then what about you? Today you ask me this, but when Zhou Ziheng tried to hire someone to kill me, you were right there. Were you thinking about whether he had any respect for his fellow disciples, or just hoping not to get caught in the flames?”
Liu Yunyao trembled, her face going pale. “What?!”
Su Zhen gave an apologetic smile. “Oops, didn’t mean to let that slip. Do forget I said that.”
Then she reached out and tapped Liu Yunyao on the forehead.
Liu Yunyao stepped back in a daze, holding her head, then slowly turned and staggered away.
Su Zhen watched her retreating figure, knowing she’d remember the conversation but forget those last few words.
She didn’t mind her junior sister knowing about this. However, if the Zhou family confronted her one day, Liu Yunyao might casually mention that Su Zhen had long known about Zhou Ziheng’s assassination attempt.
At that point, the Zhou family might start to make connections and even suspect that the Resurrection Orb was in her possession.
If she had her past life’s strength, she wouldn’t bother with such caution. But now, she had to remain wary.
Her master might even give her trouble for this.
If he saw Liu Yunyao, he might notice clues and realize that someone had used some strange technique on her to alter her memory.
But so what?
In her past life, they’d argued countless times; one more wouldn’t make a difference.
Su Zhen slowly made her way back to the corner and, upon a quick glance, saw Xiao Yu still standing on the inner side of the lamppost.
He stood there somewhat stiffly, as if lost in thought, his expression frozen, making him look like a tall statue in the shadows.
Su Zhen: “……”
In the end, this guy was still the strangest of all.
Whether Xiao Yu had heard her conversation just now was irrelevant to her.
That day, he had been at Weiyun Peak, and if he had intended to, he could have casually extended his spiritual sense and overheard Zhou Ziheng’s words and sensed that she was also listening.
Or, if he were curious about whether she had killed Zhou Ziheng, he could have simply performed a soul-search on her to find out.
So far, Xiao Yu seemed uninterested in any of this.
Su Zhen considered asking him about that secret art but also didn’t wish to seem intrusive.
But his appearance gave her a bit of a headache.
He was so powerful that trying to guard against him was meaningless, yet their interactions felt so natural she often forgot who he was.
—She had never interacted with any elder like this before; if she had always treated him as someone who must be shown constant deference, she would never have spoken to him that way earlier.
That’s why she’d impulsively nudged him, as if he were one of her friends or siblings.
Su Zhen took a few steps. “Senior, what are you thinking about?”
Xiao Yu snapped out of his thoughts and glanced down at his sleeve. “I was thinking about how to preserve this robe.”
Su Zhen: “……”
Su Zhen: “???”
