Wei Lan left the Xie residence, and before getting on the carriage instructed Ran Mo to stay behind handed her a jade pendant and said, “Get in touch with our informant at the Xie residence to wait by the gate for Xie Jie’s messenger to come out, and give him this jade pendant. Tell him it’s something his young master forgot to give, and he should take it with him. Once the messenger delivers the letter to Black Wind Fortress, kill him. Have someone disguise themselves and report back to Xie Jie with some excuse.”
“Understood.” Ran Mo took the jade pendant from Wei Lan and, after watching her carriage leave, circled to the back of the Xie residence and climbed over the wall to get back inside.
As she was climbing over the wall, Xie Tong, with his face covered, was climbing out. They exchanged a glance on the top of the wall but, each with urgent tasks ignored each other and jumped down. After Xie Tong landed, he felt an odd familiarity.
The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt until he suddenly realized—it was that pervert!
He instinctively wanted to turn back, but remembering the task Xie Zichen had given him, he held back.
Xie Zichen didn’t fully trust Wei Lan. His life was in his own hands, so he had a backup plan besides Wei Lan’s.
A noble family’s illegitimate son being chased around by a group of assassins under the noses of all the great families—he wanted to see if the head of the Xie family could bear to lose his face in such a manner? So, Xie Tong’s task was to go back to the assassin organization that had previously targeted him and place another order.
Carrying a large sum of money to hire someone to attack him, Xie Tong thought, his master really was idle and bored.
By the time both had completed their respective tasks given by their masters, the two masters were inside their houses drinking tea. The only difference was that one was drinking tea and looking at account books, and the other was drinking tea and looking at documents handed over by a secret guard.
“He has a fiancée and didn’t tell me. What use are you lot?”
Wei Lan’s voice was icy with anger, her usual smile gone, replaced by a cold, indifferent demeanour that was even more terrifying. Ye Yi, with his head bowed, after holding it in for a long time, he couldn’t help but say, “It’s just a betrothal arranged in childhood; they haven’t married yet…”
“Snatching someone else’s man is not the act of a gentleman.” Wei Lan’s voice was cold, “Who taught you this temperament?”
“Master…” Ye Er spoke up, “With you around, Wang Wanqing can’t even enter the Xie family. If Master doesn’t want it, can Xie Zichen still take a concubine?”
“Take a concubine?” Wei Lan was momentarily stunned, then finally realized, “Do you think I’m marrying him to be his lord…no, his concubine?!”
“Isn’t that the case?” Ye San interjected and persuaded Wei Lan earnestly, “Master, it’s quite normal for men to have a few women in their lives…”
Wei Lan: “…”
If a man doesn’t have his innocence, then nothing about a man is important anymore.
She sighed, finally understanding her secret guards, then lowered her head, rubbing her temples, “I need to make one thing clear to you—”
As she said that, she raised her head, slowly sweeping her gaze over the three secret guards, “I am marrying a husband, not becoming one. Whether a man is innocent or not, whether he is another woman’s man or not, this a very important thing. Do you understand!”
The three secret guards looked confused. After a while, Ye Yi tentatively asked, “Master, marrying into the family… In fact, one doesn’t need to be innocent, right?”
“It’s not about marrying into the family; it’s about marrying. Xie Zichen is going to marry me!” Wei Lan shot a glare at Ye Yi. After a long time of hesitation, Ye Yi said, “But…at this age, any noble son who hasn’t been with a woman is usually…incapable…”
What a bunch of lecherous men!
Wei Lan, who rarely cursed, couldn’t help but curse and suddenly felt a bit overwhelmed. She had initially thought that the men in this world were unreserved, giving her an advantage. But now that she was about to marry, she suddenly realized—
You reap what you sow.
The advantages she had enjoyed might very well be the experiences of her future husband.
Wei Lan closed her eyes in pain and sighed deeply. She realized that finding a husband might have to be postponed indefinitely. Feeling tired, she waved her hand, dismissing them. After a short rest, Wei Lan waited for Ran Mo to return.
As soon as Ran Mo returned, Wei Lan looked at her and asked seriously, “Ran Mo, how would you feel if your man had been with another woman?”
Ran Mo was taken aback. After a moment, she looked up and replied earnestly, “If he did it willingly, I’d kill him. If the woman forced herself on him, I’d kill her. Either way…my sword must taste blood.”
Hearing Ran Mo’s response, Wei Lan finally felt comforted. It seemed that this girl was worth having her train for seven years as she did have some female spirit.
She had felt suffocated just hearing about those who tolerated their partners being touched by others.
After a while, Wei Lan noticed it was getting late. She told Ran Mo, “Go to the Xie residence and tell Xie Zichen to come over. Tell him that I have something to discuss with him.”
“Ah?” Ran Mo was surprised. She felt that it was surprising that Wei Lan would ask Xie Zichen to come so late. After all, seeing Wei Lan’s usual behaviour, she wouldn’t inconvenience Xie Zichen at all. She was afraid that he would melt if she held even her hand. But today, she was even too lazy to go see him herself, no wonder Ran Mo felt puzzled.
Wei Lan glanced at Ran Mo and calmly said, “I am graceful towards men, but I won’t spoil everyone. He asked me for my help, so he should act like he needs it.”
Ran Mo pondered on this for a while, then tentatively asked, “What happened?”
“He got into trouble and didn’t seek his woman’s help but came to me,” Wei Lan sneered, “Does he think I’m a fool?”
“Uh…Master,” Ran Mo couldn’t help but say, “Actually, I think Fourth Young Master Xie sees you as an ally in his heart. After all, you’re a man now…”
“I know,” Wei Lan huffed coldly, “Otherwise, I wouldn’t help him with this matter. But as allies, we should act accordingly. Go to the Xie residence to call the person and don’t let others find out that I am in contact with him.”
“Oh…” Ran Mo responded in a low voice and then headed to the Xie residence. When she arrived, Xie Zichen was reviewing account books, and talking quietly with Xie Tong. Seeing Ran Mo coming, Xie Zichen was surprised. Ran Mo conveyed, “My master requests your presence to discuss something important.” Xie Zichen’s first thought was…
Could it be that Wei Lan had finally decided to stop harassing him?
But he immediately dismissed that thought after a moment. He felt that according to Wei Lan’s nature, he likely had some ‘surprise (shock)’ waiting for him at his place.
After all, he had been courting him like a girl for quite a while, and he was familiar with his tactics.
Thinking like this, with a sneer in his heart but showing no emotion, he stood up and said, “Then let’s go.”
As he walked out, Xie Zichen couldn’t resist complaining in his heart.
Having such a clingy suitor was really annoying. How should he teach him a lesson tonight to stop his constant pestering?
Why couldn’t they just be good brothers?
It was truly troublesome.
