- Chapter 8 - The Worries of a Villainess 1
Four days after staying at Port Casarus.
The rough seas had calmed down, and the ship could depart for Glastona, but Randall and his friends did not board the ship.
The search for Sophia continued, but they had found nothing that could provide a clue. They knew they had to return because they had to report to the King of Glastona, but Randall and his friends did not feel like going back.
They couldn’t find Sophia. They couldn’t leave her behind. However, as the days went by, the word “despair” began to cross Randall and his friends’ minds. Perhaps Sophia was already… No one said it aloud, but just as everyone began to think this, Randall received a call from a high-ranking member of the Welfund military.
It seemed that the King was deeply distressed by what had happened. They would like to discuss the future, and would like Randall to come to the royal capital.
The princess of Glastona has gone missing. Naturally, the army had contacted King Verhund.
If it was a request from the king, Randall and his group could not refuse.
Kyle decided to return home alone to report to King Glastona, and Randall and his group set off for the royal capital of Verhund.
It took about five days by carriage from the town of Casarus to the royal capital, Azarus. The carriage was provided by the Verhund army and they treated him with great care, but Randall did not have the energy to express his gratitude for their consideration.
Five days had passed since Sophia fell into the sea. During that time, Randall had barely been able to eat and had become emaciated.
In his head, he knew he had to pull himself together. As the head of the Voltio dukedom and the nephew of the king of Verhund, he could not make a pathetic appearance. He had to maintain a resolute attitude at all times… he knew that, but his heart was not in it.
‘Sophia…’
Did Sophia sink into the sea?
At the bottom of that dark ocean, Sophia was…
Randall covered his face with his hands.
If only he had stayed away from Sophia that night. If only he had stayed with her. If only he had paid more attention to her surroundings, Sophia would be smiling beside him right now.
She had been talking about places she wanted to visit in Welfund and seemed to be having fun.
The rattle of the carriage wheels echoed uncomfortably.
According to Kyle, Cedric had been paid by someone to hire him.
He wondered who on earth tried to kill Sophia.
According to Kyle, it was a blonde woman. There were plenty of blonde women in Glastona. Sophia was blonde too.
‘Blonde hair… Didn’t Gassur, who pretended to be Sophia’s father, also say that he was hired by a blonde woman…?’
Something was bothering Randall. However, perhaps because he was so exhausted, he couldn’t get his thoughts together.
Outside the carriage window, a hatefully blue sky spreads out before him.
The sky of Welfund that he was supposed to see with Sophia…
‘sophia…’
[…I don’t care if you end up regretting it later.]
Suddenly, Kyle’s words cross his mind.
Regret…
That’s right, he was regretting right now.
He should have faced Sophia more honestly. He should have cherished her more.
If he had jumped in after Sophia that night when she fell into the sea, would anything have been different?
Randall closed his eyes, as if praying.
