This Game Is Too Realistic - Chapter 9
Gene Sequences and Player Levels
The amount of work completed in the afternoon was almost three times that of the morning.
In total, there were as many as fifty logs of varying thicknesses that were dragged by the players with ropes and dollies to the edge of the nursing home’s wall.
To be honest, the performance of these players exceeded Chu Guang’s expectations.
The length of each log was between 8 to 10 meters, with some even reaching up to 20 meters, and more than half were as thick as a thigh.
Chu Guang tallied it up, a total of 2000 contribution points.
Old White contributed the most at 800 points by himself, while Gale was probably the worst off. This guy’s clone body was not adept at exercise, only having an ordinary person’s physique, so he only earned 300 points after working the entire day.
As for what use this stuff was, Chu Guang had not figured it out yet.
The shelter was dirt poor at the moment. Chu Guang only had two lollipops left, and he had already eaten the compressed biscuit he had before.
After thinking it over, he only told the players that in addition to waiting three days for revival, they also needed to spend revival coins.
And revival coins needed to be purchased with contribution points.
Although the “purchasing power” of contribution points was a bit meager, the players didn’t seem to mind too much.
After all, this was just the closed beta stage, so it was understandable that there was little game content. As long as there was no data wipe, hoarding currency would allow them to find places to spend it when the game went live.
Additionally, contribution points had no physical form, they were just numbers that could only be viewed on the official website after logging off for now.
Although Chu Guang wanted to imitate Megalith City and produce some tangible hard currency, there was no way. The conditions at the shelter were too harsh, and they couldn’t even scrounge up the materials needed for “minting coins”.
He couldn’t possibly give the players poker chips.
Those were the hard currency used in the Clear Spring area, but he didn’t have many left himself.
Moreover, directly giving poker chips to them would be useless since the players couldn’t conduct transactions at the survivor outposts themselves.
The reason Chu Guang could communicate with the survivors was because his soul had transmigrated here, and his brain contained the language of this world.
As for those clone bodies used by the players, they were completely blank slates, lacking even basic intelligence, let alone any inherited memories.
The language used by the survivors in the Clear Spring area was the Pan-Human Common Tongue.
This language was completely different from any language or ethnicity in the modern world, at most sharing only slight similarities in grammar and pronunciation with Chinese.
In the future, Chu Guang would consider developing a translation tool to resolve the communication issues between players and “NPCs”, while also redesigning the distribution system and economic model.
But not right now.
…
After tallying the day’s work output, the day was also getting late.
Chu Guang raised his head to glance at the slanting sun on the horizon and narrowed his eyes slightly.
Evening was approaching.
“Manager, I’ve discovered our forward operating base has no electricity,” Fang Chang walked over and said, “Why don’t we try to get a generator?”
That was a good question.
Unfortunately, it was tantamount to nonsense.
“We don’t have any spare generators”, Chu Guang looked at him. “Is there anyone here knowledgeable in this field? Or does anyone have any electrical engineering skills?”
The players looked at each other blankly.
“Can’t we just run a line up from underground?” Night Ten asked a very stupid question.
“There are no lines that long, and the shelter’s energy supply isn’t unlimited either. Even if we could use it short-term, the long-term issue would remain unresolved and create even bigger hidden dangers.”
Saying this, Chu Guang paused.
“It’s not early anymore, we should head back.”
For the players, “heading back” here naturally meant “logging off.”
Although it wasn’t completely dark yet, it was already 5pm, and dawn was about to break in the parallel world’s China.
Without realizing it, they had already spent this long in the game world. The players all had lingering expressions on their faces upon coming to their senses.
There was still a sense that there were many places worth exploring in this world.
But they had work to do during the day, so they couldn’t stay here indefinitely.
…
Inside Shelter 404.
Watching the players return to the cultivation pods and lie down, Chu Guang pondered that perhaps he should try recruiting some idle people without day jobs.
Or players from other time zones.
Otherwise, in the evenings the huge forward operating base would be left with only him, which wasn’t very suitable from a safety standpoint.
“I’ll just continue sleeping at the shelter tonight.”
If there was no need, he really didn’t want to return to that “doghouse” on Beit Street.
Just as Chu Guang was wondering what to do, Little Seven came to his side.
“Master.”
“What is it?”
“The clone body health check report has been updated. Would you like to take a look?”
Chu Guang hesitated slightly.
“…Health check report?”
“Yes! After a player logs out normally, the cultivation pod will scan the clone body inside, record its physical condition, and extract a certain amount of embryonic stem cells for backup to record the gene sequence development progress—”
“Wait, what is a gene sequence?”
Hearing this unfamiliar key term, Chu Guang felt like he had missed some crucial information.
Faced with the manager’s question, Little Seven nonchalantly replied.
“Didn’t you notice? Each player’s clone body is synthesized from different DNA strands. A gene sequence is the code number for different DNA strands.”
Chu Guang immediately asked, “Then what is development progress?”
“Every DNA sequence is carefully designed, but unfortunately we have not fully mastered the mysteries of life.”
“Not all genetic information traits have been fully expressed. It’s like how an athlete’s child is more likely to become an athlete, but they aren’t born as one.”
“The so-called development progress refers to the degree of expression of special segments in the gene sequence, usually represented as a percentage.”
“For example, if development progress reaches 100%, it means the living being’s performance in all aspects is infinitely close to the designed limit of the gene, a state of perfection…but this is almost impossible.”
“The four gene sequences we have currently activated all have a development progress between 0-1%. Research has shown that as long as the survival instinct is continuously stimulated and the body is trained, this value can be increased.”
If “gene sequence” is understood as a job class, then “development progress” is akin to a level.
A gene sequence focused on enhancing strength is like the “barbarian” class in D&D rules, innately possessing greater strength and tending to raise the strength attribute.
Like “White Steed Passing”
All the other players seemed normal, but he was extremely hairy and had a large frame, clearly not like a regular person.
What a guy.
So these clone bodies——no, the players, can actually level up!
And they even have talents as a setting!
This was such an amazing thing, yet he only found out about it now!
Looking at Little Seven calmly explaining, Chu Guang couldn’t help but say.
“Why are you only telling me about something so important now???”
Little Seven said aggrievedly, “Didn’t you tell me not to speak up out of the blue? I was planning to tell you from the very beginning.”
Chu Guang: “……”
This guy…
Must be intentional!
