- Chapter 53 - The Greatly Wronged Father (15)
“Huo Hejun…”
A mechanical female voice coming out from the tablet read out a person’s name.
The screen showed a photo of a boy, who was about seven years old, holding a trophy and certificate in his hands. The boy looked very much like Wan Er’er.
Wan Er’er stared blankly at the photo. He had a feeling, and a very strong one at that.
This was his father. He must be his father!
Nanzhi breathed a sigh of relief. “We finally found him. He’s definitely your father!”
Then, she urged him by saying, “Let’s see what he looks like after he’s grown up.”
Wan Er’er’s fingers trembled as he put in, ‘Huo Hejun’, which characters he knew of. The search results page immediately showed up in front of them.
Pictures after pictures of a man with a powerful aura came into view. One of the pictures in particular showed Huo Hejun’s handsome and sharp face. In it, he was dressed in a suit. He seemed good-looking and cold, as if he was someone who existed above everyone else.
His aura of nobility and arrogance permeated through the picture. It was clear that he wasn’t an ordinary person, even judging by just that.
“Wow, your dad is so handsome! You’ll probably also look like this when you’ve grown up,” Nanzhi praised sincerely. Her eyes were full of admiration for the good-looking man whose picture she was seeing. “Your dad must be a rich man. Look, his tie clip and cufflinks are made of jade.”
Wan Er’er let out a long breath. His entire body felt relaxed, and tears welled up in his eyes. Perhaps his life would get better from now on.
His dad would surely not abandon his children. Surely, he would love them.
Although Wan Menglin never had much material possessions to give them, she had given them steadfast love. This made Wan Er’er feel that his father, too, would definitely not abandon them, and would certainly love him and his sister.
“You should contact your dad as soon as possible,” Nanzhi happily said.
Wan Er’er looked at his father’s photo greedily. When he heard Nanzhi’s words, he paused. He was confused about how he was supposed to contact his father. He said, “I don’t know my dad’s phone number.”
Nanzhi paused, too. She didn’t have it either, and she had already been blocked by his company’s customer service.
However, Wan Er’er was optimistic. “I’ll definitely find it. I’ll learn to hack.”
Afterwards, Wan Er’er followed video tutorials to learn how to do what he wanted. Nanzhi sat beside him. She watched him for a while, before starting to feel dizzy. She couldn’t help admitting, “He’s really awesome.”
“Yeah,” the system replied.
“I want to learn that too,” Nanzhi said.
Once she learned, she’d be able to find out a lot of things by using that skill.
“Just because he learned to run before walking doesn’t mean you can do the same. You should do it step by step. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. You need to first lay the foundation.”
When the two grownups came home and saw the children huddled together staring at the tablet, Ye Yanshan reminded them, “Don’t stare at the screen for too long. It’s bad for your eyes.”
“Okay, Dad.”
Nanzhi was dizzy. She couldn’t understand anything about the instructions in the videos. When she heard her father’s voice, she immediately got up and ran to him.
“Mom!” Wan Er’er put away the tablet. Then, he approached Wan Menglin and said, “Mom, I have a surprise for you.”
Wan Menglin gave him a gentle smile. “What is it?”
Wan Er’er picked up his tab and hid it behind his back. “You’ll know when the time comes.”
“Okay. I’ll wait,” Wan Menglin said.
Wan Menglin didn’t realise the gravity of the matter that she was going to face this time. She thought that her son had just prepared some gifts for her.
Neither Nanzhi nor Wan Er’er had told Wan Yanyan about what they had been doing. She was naïve and might have told on them if they did tell her. Wan Er’er didn’t want his mother to receive information that he hadn’t verified, especially in this matter, as he knew it would end up making her sad.
“Ring… Ring… Ring…”
Nanzhi and Wan Er’er listened to the ringing tone coming from the phone. They were so nervous right now that they were clenching their fists.
After a period of learning, numerous attempts, and repeated memorisation by Wan Er’er, he finally managed to get Huo Hejun’s personal phone number.
The call was finally connected. A deep, magnetic voice sounded. “Hello? This is Huo Hejun.”
“Dad!” Wan Er’er couldn’t stop himself from calling out to his dad.
Silence was all that came from the other end of the call for some time. Eventually, Huo Hejun said, “Kid, you shouldn’t play pranks like this.”
Then, he hung up the call.
Wan Er’er bit the inside of his cheek and burst into tears. He didn’t know if he was crying because he’d heard his father’s voice for the first time in his life, or because of how cold he had treated him.
Nanzhi suppressed the anxiety in her heart. She passed a tissue to Wan Er’er and said, “Don’t cry! You’ve finally found your father.”
Now, he could have his dad come and take his family home.
As soon as Nanzhi said that, Wan Er’er cried even harder. Wan Yanyan, who was playing in another corner of the room, immediately ran to them, saying, “Gege, don’t cry! Don’t cry!”
Wan Er’er was very emotional. It took him a long time to finally calm down and decide to call another time.
After getting through, he immediately said: “Dad, I am really your child. You and your mother were in the hotel before, and then you had my sister and me.”
Listening to what the boy said made Huo Hejun speechless. He was about to hang up the call when he suddenly paused. Indeed, there was that one time when he woke up in a hotel to a messy bed and a woman’s belongings around him.
Could it be that a single encounter had made the woman pregnant?
But why didn’t that woman come to him? What was her purpose now? Did she want to use her children so she could marry into his wealthy family?
Huo Hejun had a splitting headache for a moment and rubbed the centre of his eyebrows. He was not yet even married, and he’d already had children…
Huo Hejun’s eyes trembled. He took a deep breath and asked, “Where are you now?”
Nanzhi immediately recited her address to him. At the end, he urged, “You have to hurry!”
Huo Hejun listened to Nanzhi’s soft voice and wondered if she was his daughter.
Had heaven gifted him with a pair of children?
Their mother was a stranger to him, though…
Regardless of whether the children were being truthful, he had to go and make sure it was true.
If not, then he’d just forget it. However, if it was true…
Huo Heyun suddenly felt an intense headache. What kind of woman was he dealing with? She gave birth in secret and, only now, asked her children to call him.
Huo Hejun immediately had a bad perception of that woman. She seemed very ambitious and willing to go to great lengths to achieve what she wanted.
“Great! Your dad is coming,” Nanzhi said to Wan Er’er. “Your family will be reunited!”
And her father wouldn’t die!
Wan Er’er looked at Nanzhi. He opened his lips, intending to thank her. In the end, though, he couldn’t bring himself to.
He snorted, as if he’d suddenly gained the confidence to quarrel with Nanzhi. “I found my dad, not you. Why are you so happy?”
Nanzhi put her hands on her hips. “Of course I’m happy. I helped, too!”
Perhaps because they’d spent a lot of time together to look for his dad, a friendship had sprouted between the two of them. Awkwardly, Wan Er’er said to Nanzhi, “Thank you.”
Generously, Nanzhi said, “You’re welcome.”
She did it all for her dad.
Then came dinnertime.
At the dinner table, Wan Er’er looked at Wan Menglin, then at Ye Yanshan. Since he had already found his dad, he was naturally even less willing to see his mom with Uncle Ye.
He shouldn’t let his family be separated from each other!
His one, whole family should be made up of his dad, his mom, and their children—his sister and him.
Thinking about his father, who must already be on his way, Wan Er’er felt happy. He told his mom, “Mom, I found Dad Dad is coming to find us.”
Clang…!
Wan Menglin’s spoon fell and caused her soup to splash.
Her eyes trembled. Her entire body felt stiff and she felt as if she wasn’t even in it. She slowly turned her head and asked her son in a raised voice, “What did you say?”
Happily, Wan Er’er repeated, “I found Dad! Dad told me he’s going to find us.”
Wan Menglin’s lips stiffened, but she forced herself to form a smile on them. She said, “Er’er, you shouldn’t joke about something like that.”
How could he have found him? She was their mother, and not even she knew who he really was.
“Aunt Wan, it’s true,” Nanzhi said to support Wan Er’er. “We found him on the internet.”
