When I Was Reincarnated, It Was a Year After I Died. The Girls Who Always Made Fun of Me Turned Into Yandere When They Found Out I Was Alive - Chapter 2
While I was falling off the cliff, I couldn’t remember anything. Not my precious family, not even those three I saw every day. Is this what death feels like? Maybe if I had been a bit closer to them, our relationship could have changed.
But that’s just an impossible dream now… huh?
I should have fallen off a cliff, but for some reason, I was standing on a bridge near my house. When I looked down, the familiar river was flowing below.
And when I looked around, the town where I was born and raised was still there, unchanged. Wait, I fell off that cliff and died… did I come back to life?
I reached into my pocket and found my smartphone. When I turned it on, it was unmistakably mine. Why was my phone, which I left in the mountains, here? And when I looked at my clothes, they were exactly the same as when I fell off the cliff.
Hmm. I can’t make sense of this at all. So I died, but came back to life and returned here? Isn’t this the kind of thing where you realise you’re in another world?
“What the… why am I getting these notifications?”
I looked at my phone and saw that my messaging app was flooded with notifications, over 800 of them. Most were from my family and Saki. Among the three who always mocked me, the only one I exchanged contacts with was my childhood friend, Saki.
When I checked Saki’s notifications, they were all along the lines of “Where are you?” “Please, answer me…” “I’m sorry for everything. Please, please come back alive.” Scary. Is this a different person? I can’t believe this is the same Saki who always mocked me.
There were also notifications from news apps, so I checked them.
The top news was “A year since the high school student went missing.”
Intrigued, I read the article, and it said that a year ago, a high school student from a family who went camping in the mountains suddenly disappeared. And it was the same mountain where I died. Wow… what a coincidence.
…No, this is definitely about me. I was the one who went camping and went missing on that mountain. They didn’t find my body? No wonder Saki’s messages seemed like she thought I was still alive.
“So, this is the world a year after I died… what should I do?”
If I go home, my family will definitely cause a huge commotion. From their perspective, it would be an emotional moment as I returned alive after a year of thinking I was dead, but to me, it feels like I just died and came back to life. Well, maybe my family will be happy if I return alive. Probably.
I made up my mind and started walking home… but,
“Sen…pai?”
“Huh?”
I suddenly heard a familiar voice from behind. I turned around reflexively, and there was that cheeky junior who always mocked me, standing there.
“Oh! Iwasaka.”
“…Senpai!”
“Whoa!!!”
Just as I thought I’d found the first person I knew since coming back to life, Iwasaka immediately tackled me in the stomach. If it had been any lower, it would’ve hit my solar plexus. Is she trying to kill me right after I came back to life?
“Senpai, Senpai!”
But then, for some reason, Iwasaka crouched down and started crying. She kept calling my name over and over as tears streamed from her eyes.
“It’s been a year! A whole year! I thought you were dead…”
Sorry, I was dead. I couldn’t say that, so I crouched down to her level and spoke.
“Sorry. It seems I made you worry…”
“…Everyone was looking for you. We went to that mountain again and again to search for you, but we never found you. Most people started to give up, thinking you were probably dead!”
“I see…”
Well, after not being found for a year, people would assume I was dead. I actually was, but I never expected her to be so worried about me.
“Thank you. For looking for me. I never thought you cared that much about me.”
“That’s… I’m partly responsible for how I treated you. I’m sorry. But it wasn’t just me, Asawa-senpai and Hioka-senpai were also looking for you all the time.”
“What? Hioka too?”
I had a feeling from the numerous messages from Saki, but I never imagined Hiooka was worried about me too. All three of them were desperately looking for me. I need to properly apologise and thank them. One is right here in front of me.
“Hey, Iwasaka.”
“Yes?”
“Sorry for disappearing. And thank you for looking for me.”
“Really. You should be grateful since I was searching for you… And don’t disappear again. I won’t forgive you if you do.”
“Got it.”
Looking at Iwasaka again, she smiled at me with her eyes red and swollen from crying.
